Michael J. Fox to Guest Star on "The Good Wife"

The actor will appear as Simon Canning, a shrewd and cynical litigator who squares off with Alicia Florick (Margulies) in a massive class action suit. Fox's character is willing to use anything in court, including symptoms of his neurological condition, to create sympathy for pharmaceutical company client, the network said Friday in a release.Pictures: Michael J. "His intelligence as an actor, combined with his incredible comic timing will really bring this smart, cynical lawyer to life."


The five-time Emmy winner has been battling Parkinson's disease for years. He went public with his condition in 1998 after he was diagnosed in 1991. Margulies is up for an Emmy at this year's awards, in the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series category, for her role on the show.

Attention Michael J. Fox fans: The "Family Ties" and "Spin City" veteran is returning to the small screen for a guest spot on the upcoming season of "The Good Wife." Fox Foundation, Fox will play a "smart, cynical lawyer" -- going up against Julianna Margulies' character in a class-action suit -- who's willing to use anything in court, including symptoms of his neurological condition, to create sympathy for his pharmaceutical-company client, CBS said Friday. The five-time Emmy winner has been battling Parkinson's disease for years, going public about it in 1998 after his diagnosis in 1991. 


The Hollywood actor who after announcing his diagnosis with Parkinson’s disease in 1998 has primarily focused on advocating for finding a cure for the degenerative disorder has signed on for a role on the CBS drama The Good Wife. 


His charity, the Michael J. focuses on "closing the gap between research and practical treatments" related to Parkinson's. Fox did a five-episode "Rescue Me" stretch in 2009, playing a drug-abusing paraplegic in the Denis Leary series. "It's a measure of how screwed up they are that they would hire me to play a paralyzed guy," Fox told USA Today at the time. "I'm the opposite of a paralyzed guy. One of the reasons I don't act that much now is that my first job is to act like I'm not dealing with the things I'm dealing with."

MICHAEL J FOX, the legendary Hollywood actor, has signed on to guest star in an episode of the drama series The Good Wife, CBS announced today. Fox - best known for his role in the Back to the Future trilogy - will play Simon Canning, a litigator who goes head to head with Alicia, played by JULIANNA MARGULIES. CBS describe Canning as a character "willing to use anything in court, including symptoms of his neurological condition, to create sympathy for his otherwise unsympathetic client: a giant pharmaceutical company." Creators of The Good Wife Robert and MICHELLE KING said today, "We're absolutely thrilled that Michael has agreed to play this role. His intelligence as an actor, combined with his incredible comic timing will really bring this smart, cynical lawyer to life."

Fox - who suffers from Parkinson's disease - won an EMMY AWARD for his role in Spin City, as well as winning the EMMY AWARD for Outstanding Guest Actor in 2009 for his work on Rescue Me. The Good Wife has received nine EMMY AWARD nominations in total, including Best Drama and Best Dramatic Actress, for Marguiles. The show's second season is set to hit screens on September 28th 2010.
